I am currently with an organization called SGI, which stands for Soka Gakkai International. It is a Buddhist Practice that has helped me immensely throughout my life since I was aged 14. We chant Nam Myoho Renge Kyo. Here is a little bit of background what this means. Nam Myoho Renge Kyo are words chanted within all forms of Nichiren Buddhism. The words Myoho Renge Kyo refer to the Japanese title of the Lotus Sūtra. This practice has taught me so many life lessons, brought my confidence up and helped me to be the best version of myself in order to pursue a victorious and courageous life. It keeps me sane and happy. It keeps my life state high with so much support from members in the community. I became an SGI member in 2016; it was the best experience I’ve ever been through. This practice not only has helped me polish my life, it has taught me a lot about the Buddhist nature/Mystic Law, given me a sense of wisdom and hope, being the best role model to those around me, hearing members experiences and the hardships they have been through, only makes me more inspired, motivated to improve my life and keep bettering myself. It has changed my life for the better. We all have ups and downs in life, chanting to the Gohonzon (shrine) is the centre of my life. It inspires me everyday and it brings me joy and fulfillment to see people succeed in the practice. My advice to you is try chanting for 10 minutes a day and see how revived and positive you’ll feel afterwards. I will end with a guidance quote by our SGI president.
“Strength is Happiness. Strength is itself victory. In weakness and cowardice there is no happiness. When you wage a struggle, you might win or you might lose. But regardless of the short-term outcome, the very fact of your continuing to struggle is proof of your victory as a human being.” - Daisaku Ikeda.
